Marnie sat on the edge of the pier, letting her feet dangle softly in the water. A gust of wind blew her blond hair back from her face. Her hazel brown eyes were filled with tears. Derrick had completely vanished. She had no idea where he was or what had happened. She gently placed a hand over her stomach, that was now flat, but soon would become round. She was early in showing any signs of pregnancy, but you could tell if you looked carefully. She had loved Derrick very much, now she was alone again, stuck raising a baby in this world by herself.
She angrily grabbed a rock and hurled it through the air. It made a satisfying 'plunk' noise as it hit the water and sank. Her heart began hardening now. It was time to move on and concentrate on staying healthy and raising a baby. It was at times like this that she desperately wished her mom was around. Her mother would at least be able to help her. She was stuck alone now.
Marnie felt fresh tears streaming down her cheeks as she saw a pair of seagulls land in the water and gently bob with the current. Ice entered Marnie's veins now as she tried to take a steady breath and calm herself down. Getting upset like this couldn't be good for the baby. She affectionately looked down at her belly.
"I hope at least you won't leave your girlfriend stranded like your father did" Her tone was light but bitter. Sighing, she raised her eyes to watch the sunset. Soft pink and orange light cascaded over the horizon. She reached up and tucked a few strands of her blond hair behind her ear, waiting to see if anyone else would join her

Gabriel smiled as he made his way towards the dock with camera in hand. A man he ran across had told him about this place. Gabe had asked where the best places to visit had been before the Vaccine had hit and the man told him to go to the Marina. Gabe had his doubts but now that he was there the marina had seemed like the perfect place to gets shots of the ocean.
He laid his bag down, flipped the screen out, and started filming. It was a beautiful place, though the silence was a little unnerving. He would have loved to bring Natalie and Lilly there. Both of them loved the ocean, Lilly couldn’t get enough of it and she loved boats to. Sadness and an ache began to fill his chest but he pushed it away quickly. He didn’t want the feeling to make him forget his promise to Lilly. He just needs a distraction.
It wasn’t hard to find a distraction when I woman appeared on his screen. He zoomed in and noted that tears were falling down her cheeks. It wasn’t abnormal to see someone crying these days but it still pulled at his heart to see it. He watched her for a little longer and saw her talking to her belly.
He closed the screen and walked up to her, carefully so he didn’t scare her. “It’s a nice day isn’t it?” He said as he looked out at the water. He wanted to ask her what she was doing out there alone, someone in her condition shouldn’t be alone these days, but he didn’t want to seem rude by prying. “Do you come here often?” He didn't mean it as a pick up line, though he winced cause it sounded like he had. "Sorry I didn't mean that like it sounded."

Marnie looked up and spied a handsome looking guy standing there with a camera. She smiled and chuckled at his statement.
"That definitely sounded like a pick up line" She chuckled. "It's ok. I'm Marnie. And yeah I find this place relaxing really"
She smiled up at him and patted the spot next to her.
"Come and join me. You could probably get some really good shots around here" She said softly.
She reached up and tucked a few strands of hair behind her ear. Marnie quickly wiped her eyes with the back of her hand and inhaled deeply, calming herself down. She looked up at the young man again.
"What about you? This your first time coming here?" She implied cocking her head to the side curiously. Her hazel brown eyes caught the sunlight, making them appear amber. Marnie knew that the dead really didn't come here too much, which was odd really. But it worked in their favor. This was another place they could come and just relax and not have to worry about being eaten alive or turned. It was a place to come and just 'get away' per se. She studied him and waited.

At least he had been able to make her smile and laugh. She looked even more beautiful when she was smiling and it made him wish he hadn’t taken the camera off her. “My name is Gabriel, but you can call me Gabe.” He sat down next to her and went back to looking at the screen “it does seem like it can be a relaxing kind of place. though I think others might find the silence a little creepy.” He glanced over at her and saw her wiping away her tears, glad that the tears had stopped.
“This is my first time here; I am kind of impressed with just how quiet and peaceful it is here. There are not many places like this left these days.” This had actually been the only place he had found that made him feel relaxed. After a little while of silence and filming; he dropped the camera onto his lap and turned towards her, “I don’t mean to pry but, are you alright? I saw that you were crying when I walked over here.”

Marnie smiled and looked out over the water. She heard him ask if she was ok that she was crying earlier. She sighed.
"My boyfriend vanished. He just up and left me. Not to mention that I'm pregnant too" her voice lowered even more as she talked about being pregnant. "I was just angry and hurt that he had left"
She pulled her feet out of the water and sat cross legged. She tucked a few strands of hair behind her ear and turned back to Gabe.
"It's nice to meet you Gabe. Yeah the silence can be creepy but sometimes you get used to it, though I don't know how I'll ever get used to it" Marnie replied softly.
She smiled at him.
"You enjoy taking pictures? What else did you take pics of?" She asked him curiously tilting her head.
The sun dipped behind the cloud, briefly engulfing them in semi darkness. The weather was starting to turn to the fall now and the cooler breeze was coming in. A slight shiver ran up her spine as she kept her hazel eyes on him. He was really handsome. Her heart fluttered a bit and she silently scolded herself but still, she kept her eyes on his

Gabe didn’t understand how any man could leave the woman who was carrying his child. It was something he would never do, no matter how bad the times were. Then again maybe this guy had a good reason for doing it. He didn’t want to think badly of anyone even if he disagreed with their methods. “Well then that is a very good reason for tears. You have a right to be angry and hurt. Any woman in your position would be.”
He laughed quietly and looked down at his camera when she asked about his pictures, “It is a hobby I started in high school. I think pictures and videos can show us more things than our eyes can take in. a camera can capture beautiful things that our eyes missed.” He said as he picked it back up and aimed it towards her. “I also like to preserve memories this way, so I can never forget a face. Though you have a face that I don’t think I would forget easily.” He grinned, knowing it was a cheesy thing to say but he meant it all the same. “I took pictures of everything I have seen, so far in this area I have taken pictures of a few people, a very creepy high school, a large hotel, the ocean, and you.”
He watched as the shadow from the cloud passed over her face. The sight of it mesmerized him for a moment and caused him to be speechless. It took the cool breeze to snap him out of it. “It’s starting to get a little chilly, how about you and I go someplace a little warmer. Cold weather isn’t really good for babies.” He pushed himself to his feet and held out his hand to help her up.

Marnie smiled and blushed a bit. She reached up and took his hand. Immediately, Marnie felt warmth spreading through her body. She tilted her head to the side a bit but then shook her head.
"Yeah I agree. It's getting a bit nippy out." She agreed softly as she began walking along side Gabe. She glanced at him sideways.
"Thank you for being understanding. It's time to move on though and not dwell on the past" She said brightly inhaling deeply. She slowly wound her arm through his but looked at him. "If this bothers you I can remove my arm"
Marnie said not sure if he liked being touched. She was surprised at how easily she felt comfortable around him. Marnie's hazel eyes studied Gabe closely.
She shyly lowered her gaze.
"That's a great hobby. It's fun taking pictures" She said cheerfully as she walked. "I know a great restaurant if you wanna head there?"
She waited for his response. She reached up and tucked a few strands of hair behind her ear. Dark storm clouds began rolling in, threatening a storm was coming. She shivered again.

Gabe laughed quietly and put his hand over hers, “It doesn’t bother me at all, it’s only proper for a gentleman to take a woman’s arm when escorting her somewhere.” He actually liked the feeling of having her so close to him. He missed being able to feel a woman’s touch.
He thought about the restaurant and was about to say sure when he spotted the dark clouds rolling in “Actually it looks like we are going to have a pretty bad storm heading our way, how about we go back to my place and I make you dinner. That way if the storm is pretty bad we will be stuck someplace comfortable.” His new place was kind of empty but it had all the essentials, couch, table, chairs, and a bed. It had been pretty easy to find a place to live these days. A lot of homes were empty now.
“I don’t like to brag but I am a pretty good cook.” He had done a lot of the cooking back home with his family. He actually missed cooking meals and watching someone enjoy them.

Marnie hesitated for a moment before making up her mind.
"Sure that sounds great" She said softly. "I love a good cook"
She let him lead her. She wondered where he lived and hoped it wasn't too far.
"Do you live nearby?" She implied of him curiously. "Yeah storms are coming. Fall is near"
As soon as she said that, a tingle ran up her spine. It was certainly cooler during the day, but at night it was much much colder. It dropped down in the 50s or so. She tilted her head.
"At least it's not summer" She said lightly. "I don't fair well in the heat"
She blushed at his words about a proper gentleman. He certainly was chivalrous to say the least. She tucked a few strands of hair behind her ear and enjoyed feeling him close to her. It had been a while since she felt a guy near her, with the exemption of Derrick. But he was gone. She had to face it and move on.
She absent mindedly placed a hand on her belly. She wondered what she was going to have. A girl or boy. She then realized she had to tell him about Lily.
"We need to stop by my house first. We found a little girl named Lily and I kinda took her in, or rather adopted. If this is ok?" She asked him.

“I don’t live very far from here. Just a short walk.” Gabrie smiled when she said fall was near. He always like Fall. In his opinion it was the best of the four seasons. It always made the best pictures. The golds, reds and yellows of the leaves made everything else stand our very well. “I love fall, though I does mean winter is close. I think that’s the only bad thing there is about fall. Snow is pretty and all but I think I can wait awhile for the below zero kind of weather.”
He was about to tell her going to her house would be fine when he heard her mention a little girl named Lily. He almost stopped walking but managed to keep his feet going. The pain of losing his little girl washed over him again but he tried his best to hide it from his face, “Sure I don’t mind stopping at your house first.” His said quietly. “What happened to the little girls parents? did she say anything about it?”

Marnie smiled as she began leading him toward her house.
"Oh Lily's parents were attacked by the dead" Marnie explained. "Poor kid. We took her in. She seems ok now but it's gonna be hard to explain to her when she gets older"
She sighed and turned the corner. Her house came into view. She led him up the front steps and opened her door. Lily came rushing toward her. She body slammed Marnie and wrapped her arms around her waist, pressing her face into Marnie's abdomen. Marnie laughed and turned to Gabe.
"Gabe, this is Lily" Marnie said chuckling as Lily released her and watched Gabe suspiciously. After a few moments, Lily broke into a grin and rushed toward Gabe, hugging him too.
"She's really friendly" Marnie laughed. "Have a seat. I'm gonna grab a change of clothes"
She headed up stairs leaving Gabe alone with Lily. Marnie changed into a pair of jeans and a white shirt. She braided her hair and applied a bit of makeup. In her ears, she had small diamond stud earrings. She inhaled deeply and headed back down stairs. She leaned against the door frame.

Gabriel smiled gently at the little girl as she wrapped her arms around his legs. It was a little painful at first but it was impossible not to smile and feel better with her smiling up at him. He watched Marnie go upstairs then knelt down and spoke to the little girl, “Hey there Lily, it’s very nice to meet you.”
He smiled gently at her and spoke softly. It was a little awkward at first, the girl was so quiet and it had been a while since he been around kids, but the feeling soon went away and he relaxed. “Mind if I take your picture?” He asked as he pulled out his camera and took a few pictures of her. “You know I had a little girl about your age, Her name was Lilly to. I bet you two could have been great friends.” He said as he turned the camera so she could see the pictures he had taken.
He looked up and saw Marnie leaning against the door frame, “Hey, welcome back.” He smiled warmly, “You look beautiful.” he looked down at Lilly, "Doesn't she look beautiful Lily?"
