Charlee walked the streets of New York. She had visited here alot before the apocalypse happened. Her blue eyes scanned around. It was just as silent as Maine. It was really eerie. A shiver ran up her spine as she carefully turned the corner. Her rifle slug over one shoulder. She never went anywhere without it.
Her Volvo XC60 SUV was parked not too far behind her, incase something came up and she had to retreat back to it in a hurry. She had left the engine running as well. Clean getaways were something you needed to know how to do without having any Re-Animators hugging the car and trying to get in.
Her brother was back in Maine, waiting for her return. She had told him she needed to do a bit of traveling now, to clear her head. There were nights when the silence and lack of human contact bothered her greatly. Today was one of those days where she just felt the need to be alone. She watched as a stray dog buried its nose in the garbage can. It raised his head up to see her. Charlee froze, fingers gripping the strap of the rifle in case it decided to come over to her. It was infected with the 'virus'. Somehow the vaccine had adapted to animal DNA now. This was a major problem. The dogs eyes were a milky white color and it's skin was starting to decay. She held her breath, but the dog returned to the can, obviously intent on finding food that wasn't human, but she wasn't going to take any chances

Kaileb had no idea why he was in New York, only that it was one hell of a bad idea. He’d driven, but his tyre had been blown out and the axle of his wheel was all bent. It wasn’t that Kaileb couldn’t fix it; after all he was a mechanic by trade; but he knew better than to focus his attention somewhere else when he was in strange territory which held host to the potential of attacks from Re-Animators. Instead he’d unloaded the car, and was carrying his essentials, a gun and a back pack full of clothing and a toothbrush, towards a small hotel which was ran more like a safe haven for those who dared to visit the desolate city. It was ran by a group of outsiders who Kaileb had been in touch with and so his room would be the safest place to stop tonight. He’d figure out how to make his way back home when the sun rose again.
He turned a corner, hearing the running of a car, and he held his rifle steady; only to be greeted by a blonde female who’s face looked familiar. ”Hey.” he offered, walking towards her at a slow but steady pace, his gun by his side; a sign that he too was one of her kind. Well at least for now. ”You shouldn’t be out here alone.” He told her gently as he approached her, figuring that she was obviously tough enough to handle herself, but giving her his support anyway. The closer he got the more he realised she was attractive and a smile crossed his lips. ”You fancy giving me a lift to a safe house? I can offer you a place to stay if you do.” He knew it could perhaps come across as arrogant or perhaps just helpful but anything was worth a shot these days. The worst someone could do was kill you, but that wasn’t a particularly bad threat these days.

Charlee smirked at the handsome guy that approached her. She tilted her head and smiled at him flirtaciously.
"Sure. Hop in" she said jerking her thumb over her shoulder toward her truck.
She climbed in and closed her door. Once the young man was in the passenger seat, Charlee turned to him.
"So where are you from cutey?" she asked putting the car in drive and began heading toward the direction where she knew there was a safe house, or rather a place that the uninfected humans could roam and hang out without fear of being attacked by the Re-Animated.
"Im just letting you know now that I'm gonna be heading back to Maine in the morning." she said to him, not really sure if that would bother him or if he would want to come with her. New York was pretty much like Maine. Charlee winked at him.
"The names Charlee. What's yours?" She asked turning the wheel and making a left hand turn. There was no need for turn signals or anything like that. There were no police here at all. Unlike Maine, there were a few law enforcement's around, here, there was zilch. She glanced at him.
He was certainly handsome and she discreetly glanced at his left hand. There was no wedding band there.

Kaileb could see that he was onto a good thing when the girl he randomly approached smiled at him somewhat flirtatiously. He nodded and smiled back before following her thumb towards the truck. He climbed in the passenger seat and rested his bag on the floor next to his feet. ”Thanks. I’ve damaged my axel and blown a tyre.” He explained before surveying the road in front of him.
The blonde turned to him and spoke; he was sure if she knew what he was then she wouldn’t necessarily be calling him pet names; but it felt good to be pretending to be normal. ”I’m from a crappy little town where the death plague started.” He rolled his eyes sarcastically, not really enjoying Maine very much these days. But everywhere was the same; there was no area he knew of that was free. ”What about you?” He asked her curiously, stealing a glance at her as she drove, she was pretty.
She offered him a lift back to Maine and Kaileb cocked an eyebrow. ”Really? That’s where I’m from, it’d save me working on my car if I could catch a lift.” He suggested smiling a little. Technically the car wasn’t exactly his but one he’d found abandoned a while back, so it didn’t matter if he ditched it now so he could spend a bit of time with this girl. She winked at him and he raised an eyebrow. ”So you looking for somewhere to crash tonight?” He asked her somewhat suggestively.
He nodded at her name, it was cute; somewhat fitting for the blonde. ”I’m Kaileb. What you doing in New York?” He asked her curiously, ”Coming to see your boyfriend?” He added as an after thought as he glanced out of the window. Kaileb was usually very good at scoring, but he felt on edge given they were still at risk of being attacked. He knew he was strong enough to take on any Re Animations but Kaileb was keen to put his energy towards better things such as the blonde next to him.

Charlee smiled at Kaileb.
"Actually yeah I do need a place to crash tonight." she said smirking at him. "I'm from Cemetery Gates. Born and raised. I was just out here checking on somethings" she said.
Being he was a perfect stranger, she wasn't going to delve into her personal life or why she was really here in New York. Just as she was sure he wouldn't blab about any personal things as to why he was there himself.
Charlee studied him.
"No, no boyfriend" she shook her head. "He died last year from becoming a Re-Animated. He's dead...or rather dead-ish" She added dryly. "You got a girlfriend?"
She turned the wheel right and got onto the highway. Thankfully it was clear of any parked cars that were left there when the apocalypse hit. It was smooth sailing all the way. She didn't have to worry too much about speed cause there were no cops around to enforce things. She opened her window and the cool breeze came in fluttering her blond hair back away from her face. She glanced at Kaileb.
"I wouldn't want to impose on you though" she added.
