Derrick rubbed his fingers along Marnie's as the mood turned serious. He watched Lily run off before allowing his full attention on the blonde before him and remained quite as he waited for her to speak again. He could tell there was something she wanted to say but he hadn't expected what actually came out of her mouth. Being Marnie's first wasn't a problem but now he understood more why she had been so angry with him that day he tried to leave. Needless to say, walking away alone was enough reason but being a first for a women meant the world to them. There was meaning for almost anyone. Derrick could remember his first time with a girl back in high school. That relationship with her had been the longest one in his lifetime and she was the only girl, until now, that he considered being with for the rest of his life. He knew the connection of his first would never die despite moving on and that was probably easier done for men. He knew most women took that type of interaction seriously and to learn that he was Marnie's first meant that it really meant something to her. Not that it wouldn't either way.
"I didn't know that." He rose one of her hands to his face and kissed it gently. "I hope it was everything you wanted." Derrick comment with slight hesitance in his voice. It was like women to plan out their first time, especially when it came to picking out who it would be with. Everyone liked to say it should be with someone special. Clearly the two had had a connection from the start but they were strangers and he wasn't sure how good that was for her. Obviously she hadn't minded since she didn't stop him but he hoped that his impulsive move didn't force her into it.
"If he tried to ruin our relationship he wouldn't have to worry just about what you would do." Derrick added with no hesitation. His protective and egocentric attitude didn't sit him well with other men. Any other hunter or someone who had the same beliefs as he did would make it in his book. Anyone who tested him crossed the line and would get to know the Derrick who was very blunt and in your face. He didn't like to resort to his rude side but for the most part he wouldn't have cared what Kaileb thought. Until it was necessary, Derrick would have to deal with the guy for Marnie's sake. Hopefully he wasn't planning to be around a lot.
Despite his clear annoyance with just the topic of another guy, he was soothed by the touch Marnie supplied. He kissed her back while standing up and holding her in his arms.

Marnie smiled at Derrick as he asked if it had been everything shed hoped. Marnie nodded. "Oh yes you were incredible. It was simply amazing. I would not do it any other way" she said softly and lovingly.
She heard his tone when she talked about Kaileb. She could see that Derrick was highly irritated by the mention of if Kaileb would ruin their relationship. Marnie thought back to Kailebs suggestion of putting Lily in a shelter.
" he sugested putting Lily in a shelter instead of taking her in" Marnie said looking into the living room at Lilys form on the couch. "as if she was some kind of dog"
Marnie let Derricks arms encircle her. She wound her arms around him and pressed her cheek against his toned chest. She loved being in his arms. Marnie kissed him softly and passionately. She wound her arms around his neck, bringing him closer to her. Her kisses were gentle but passionate. After a few moments she pulled back breathless.
"im sorry i got so angry over you leaving that morning. I was just scared that you were like Sam. I know you arent. You are the most gentlest and wonderful man I know. I am so deeply in love with you" she said softly.

"Good. As long as it was what you wanted." Derrick was relieved as she spoke of their first time. He was pleased that she enjoyed it and that it didn't seem forced. The small compliments of how good it was. It slightly raised his confidence, knowing that he didn't suck. Most guys wouldn't admit it but performing well in bed was probably one of their biggest insecurities. He didn't normally care when traveling around but for some reason Marnie's opinion matter. It matter beyond their sexual relations. "It was great for me too." Derrick managed to mumble knowing that he rarely shared his feelings to her. He thought for sure that the blonde would change her mind about him once she realized how bottled up and stubborn he was but she continued to surprise him. He hadn't had a woman care for him this much since his mother was alive and it both frightening and refreshing. He just needed to work with his issues and accept life the way it was.
His mood still hadn't eased with Kaileb still lingering in their conversation. "Seriously? Why would he consider that? Lily is a child. That last thing she needs is to be abandoned in this mess of a world." Derrick shook his head as he too followed Marnie's gaze to the image of the little blonde sitting on the couch. It seemed as thought he was disliking this guy more with each passing moment but Kaileb had no part of their life anyways. He may have been apprehensive towards the idea of bringing Lily home at first for the simple reason of risk. He was even tested today of how well he could protect the women in his life right now but he would never send her to a shelter. It wasn't likely they were up and running anymore anyways.
Derrick enjoyed the intimate moment as he kissed her back. He fell for her more and more each day, if that was even possible. He was already in love with her but he felt more at ease when she was around. He was so use to being tense and alert. These new feelings were different but in a good way. Though they would still take some getting use to. "You don't need to be sorry. You had every right to be mad." He planted a soft kiss on her forehead as he tried to reassure her. "I don't know about being gentle..." Derrick had been referring to last night. "But I will never be a Sam. I promise." He meant what he said, especially since he was completely against domestic violence. He'd never think of hurting Marnie. It was the last thing he ever wanted. "I love you too." He grinned slightly as he caressed her cheek.

Marnie smiled at him softly
"Oh yes. It was everything" she said warmly gently tracing his jawline with her finger. She took Derricks hand and led him into the living room. Lily broke into a huge grin when she spied Marnie and Derrick. Marnie immediately scooped her up into her arms as she sat down on the couch. Lily curled up on the couch next to her with her head on Marnie's thigh. Marnie gently ran her fingers through the little girls hair.
Marnie looked up at Derrick.
"Yeah. I remember why I'd broken up with him a long time ago. He would just come across as so inconsiderate and cold. What would he have done had I gotten pregnant? Just abandon me like that?" Marnie said shaking her head in disbelief.
She inhaled deeply.
"You are gentle. You never once hurt me. Last night was amazing and passionate but you never once over stepped." she said softly placing a hand on his arm. She let her head rest against his shoulder. She snuggled up against him with her cheek against his upper arm. She grabbed the remote and turned on the TV.
"Anything you wanna see?" she asked him, eagerly. "Let's just have a nice relaxing evening. We can have dinner and just watch TV or movies. Whatcha say?" She asked him brightly. Lily shifted so that her feet stretched across Derricks' lap.

Derrick followed Marnie to the couch and smiled as she heals Lily. Strangely enough the little girl looked as though she could have been their daughter. She was so sweet and innocent. It hurt him to know that she wouldn't actually have her really parents to raise her. He and Marine would have to fill in their spots but he hoped they could live up to be the parents that Lily deserved. Derrick always wanted kids but he never thought the responsibly would come around during the apocalypse but it wasn't his choice. It happened and he would have to except it. Which he had. He loved Lily like he had with his nieces. She reminded him a lot of them but he tried to call upon the good memories. The twenty-seven year old spoiled his nieces and he knew Lily would get the same treatment. It was inevitable. Little girls just drew to him.
"Well you don't need to worry about that with him anymore." Derrick assured as he sat next to her on the couch. They had already had a pregnancy scare and even if had come true, he would have never ran out on her. Especially when there was a child involved. He may have been mainly and tough but he knew how important family was. His had been a big role in his life. Losing them was devastating so he would make sure it never happened again. Marnie wouldn't have to worry. She wasn't with Kaileb, she was with him. She didn't have to worry about Kailebs ways. She would just have to deal with Derricks. So far she didn't want to back out.
"I like that idea." He nodded as he ran a hand threw her blonde locks. He stared at the TV, realizing it had been awhile since he watch it. He was use to being on the road and spending little times in doors but it was nice to relax for once. Derrick smiled as he watched Lily squeeze herself between them. The smallest gestures she made had him smiling. "You know we should probably go back to the mall soon ." He said cautiously knowing that was where they found her. "She needs more clothes and toys." He stated, knowing that he wanted Lily to grow up in as much of a normal life as possible.

Marnie enjoyed feeling Derricks' hand slide though her locks. She exhaled loudly and in contentment.
Lily shifted her weight a bit so that her legs were stretched over Derricks' lap. Marnie chuckled. It was so cute.
Marnie found a channel and kept it on. She grinned.
"This is my favorite show" she said happily. "It's really funny"
She yawned and stretched her arms above her chest, causing the hem of her shirt to rise. She sheepishly tugged it down but glanced down at Lily. She gently smoothed back Lily's blond hair away from her face.
She slowly turned to Derrick.
"What type of popcorn do you want? We have extra butter or plain?" she implied of him curiously cocking her head to one side curiously. She grinned and pointed down to Lily.
"I'm kinda incapacitated at the moment" she laughed good naturedly at Lily's posture.
Marnie had to chuckle at that. Lily was so cute. Marnie reached up and tucked a few strands of her hair behind her ear and looked at Derrick lovingly. She didn't mind whichever he chose. Orval Red'n'Bockers made the best popcorn. She beamed

"Extra butter of course." Derrick smirked at her question. That was the only way to go with popcorn. Anyone who thought otherwise was crazy. It was like when someone went to the movies and didn't buy any popcorn. It was an American tradition like buying hot dogs at a baseball game. They were a must but in this world there could be no more of that. No more dates to the theater. No more cheering for your favorite sport teams. It a harsh reality to have to give up such things but something they had grown to accept over the past nine years. Now Derrick and Marnie would just have to sit in the comfort of their home with Lily and enjoy what good times they could have.
He brought his hands to the little girls sides and poked at her softly. She giggled and crawled into his lap, which was his intent so Marnie could escape to the kitchen. He played with Lily until they were settled back onto the couch. The little blonde placed herself between, the big popcorn bowl in her lap. Derrick grinned at the site and then turned to Marnie. He kissed her softly and wrapped an arm around her should before turning his attention back to the TV. They chose a movie appropriate for the little girl and for the rest of the night, the three of them remained in their spots.
From far away it was like a picture perfect family. One that could be hung on the mantle above the fire place. It all seemed peachy and while they would enjoy the little moments, Derrick still knew there was a bigger picture to their situation. The world outside their walls was coming to an end. It was dangerous and not a place he wanted to live in. Sitting contently with the two girls, he realized this was his purpose. He would continue to be a hunter because now he would be fighting for them. Everything that had happened the past nine years led them all to here. There was no going back or changing it. It was meant to be and the twenty-seven year old would make sure it stayed that way. With the hope that they could eventually have a normal life.
