KAL, Darrea"But there's a side to you that I never knew, never knew. All the things you'd say they were never true, never true. And the games you play you would always win, always win." You know those melodies that you hear and you can't get them out of your head but you only remember a certain section of it as well? Darrea had one section of some song he couldn't even remember the name of running through his head and god it was annoying. He had woken up early and left his bunk mate Ryan to go to the beach. The sergeant had been M.I.A since before Darrea had gone to the school to scope things out so the rest of their group seemed to be at a loss for what to do. Darrea too felt a little out of sorts without a commanding officer to wake them at 6 am, make sure everything was clean and tidy and shout orders at them. But still he was up at 6, pulling on his running shoes and shorts and out the door.
He couldn't stand being there for long. Though he knew many of the other men would head out and do their thing now he had to think. Did he want to stick around until a new commanding officer showed up, they had radioed it in but no one had answered. Darrea was a First Sergeant where as their old leader had been Command Sergeant Major. He wasn't sure if they had a Sergeant Major in their ranks it would have to be something they'd discuss later on, for now Darrea concentrated on the rhythmic sound of his shoes striking the pavement as he headed for the beach.
Running on the beach was twice the workout and his legs always burned afterwards. Today it was just early enough for it to be light but for the sun to still not yet be up. All he had with him was his Ka-Bar knife attached to his shorts, generally the beach was free of reanimated but it was better safe then sorry. He could do enough damage with the knife to buy him time to get back to the area they had set up as a safe zone and get his other weapons. He ran every day to make sure he was able to do just that.
His feet slid slightly in the sand but he stayed far enough away from the surf to keep dry and on the softer sand so his muscles really had to work. Generally he did a loop going south but today he headed north, he had gone to the bar the other night and someone had told him about a ship wreck down that way so he was more then curious to check it out. Deo had always had a bit of a fetish about ships, especially old wooden ones where you could still see the ribs. But when he got there and stopped on the shore it wasn't exactly what he expected.
He breathed heavily, sweat dripping down his body, the distance from the bunker to here was longer then he had expected and the morning heat was beginning to set in. The ship was huge, old, metal possibly a war ship from the looks of it, not that he could be sure from this distance. He bent over, sucking in air as he studied the wreck carefully. He would have loved to have swam out there and checked it out but the water was always dangerous.

Tamara was out jogging along the beach. She had white IPOD ear phone buds in her ear. Her ipod was tucked into the pocket of her jogging pants. She had on a sleeveless white tee shirt. Her shoulder length brown hair was pulled into a ponytail. A few shorter strands hung down against her cheeks and was slightly sticking to her neck. She was sweating a bit, but the cool breeze that came off the ocean cooled her down. She exhaled and pumped her arms.
The waves gently crashed against the shoreline before going back out. She paused momentarily to look out at a old war ship that was bobbing with the waves. Her eyes flitted to a man standing on the shore not too far from where she was. He was damn good looking. A smirk formed on her face as she jogged toward him.
"Hey" she said lightly. "That looks pretty cool doesn't it?" Tamara asked notioning to the ship out on the ocean.
A few sea gulls squawked over head and dive bombed the ocean surface. While there weren't great white sharks around here as a rule, they did have jelly fish and other things that weren't friendly to the common population.
"Like jogging out here too?" she implied of him, placing her hands on her hips as she studied him and waited for his response

KAL, Darrea"But there's a side to you that I never knew, never knew. All the things you'd say they were never true, never true. And the games you play you would always win, always win." His breathing was almost under control by the time he head footsteps came down the beach. Eyes flickered towards the sound and muscles tensed, preparing to draw his knife if there was even the slightest hint of danger. What he saw was a different type of danger, one that drew a sly smile to his face. Nothing was more of a turn on then a woman with sweaty clothes clinging to her body. And damn did she have one hell of a nice body. he turned to face her, body language relaxed and casual as one hand rested on his hip and the other hung beside him in an open mannor. There was nothing he couldn't stand more then people crossing their arms when meeting new people, it's like telling them without words that you don't want them here.
The thoughts vanished as soon as she spoke and he responded to her greeting with a warm smile and a wave. She motioned to the wreck and asked his opinion. "Even before the apocolypse I was obsessed with boats, this just made my day. Though I'm more of a pirate ship man myself" he said easily with a wink at the end. Conversations are always so much more fun with some harmful flirting thrown in and what better way to test the waters then to throw in an easy wink here adn there? Well it might get his eye stabbed out one day but so far it was working fairly well for him.
Jogging? He barely registered her question, he was too busy already undressing her with his eyes. But he didn't skip a beat as he looked bewond her instead of snapping his eyes up like a school boy caught staring a womans chest while she was talking. "I try and go out ever day, keeps you in shape fairly well" he said with an easy shrug before playfully striking a poise and flexing his muscles. Of course the poor boy couldn't keep a straight face and was grinning and chuckling in seconds. "What about yourself? I haven't seen you out here before" he asked. "I'm Darrea by the way, Deo for short through" he offered easily, sweeping and arm before him as he bent at the waist in a half bow.

Tamara knew he was checking her out, and hell she was doing the same to him. She watched with an amused expression at him bowing before her.
"Wow. Now that I can get used to" She said winking at him. She pulled the ear phones out of her ears and slung them around her neck. She listened to him speaking about boats.
"Yeah boats are cool. I love cruise ships. Those are huge ships" she said grinning at him.
She motioned with her head in the direction of the beach behind him.
"Feel like taking a walk with me Deo?" she asked him as she took a few steps passed him and paused, turning around to wait to see if he would follow her. She knew she looked good and didn't mind guys flirting with her. But she did have standards and boundaries. She didn't like anyone pawing at her, unless she initiated it and was in control. She raised an eyebrow at Deo but was grinning at him.
"So you work out huh?" she asked him lightly and teasingly. A gentle breeze caught her brown hair and fluttered it around. She was starting to cool down, so that was good. She watched him curiously.

KAL, Darrea"But there's a side to you that I never knew, never knew. All the things you'd say they were never true, never true. And the games you play you would always win, always win." Well she seemed amused by his antics at least and that was a good start. it was always hit and miss with women, before the apocalypse he had had one girl throw her drink in his face, saying he was degrading her by treating her like that. All he had done was bow and kiss her hand... But he had apologized none the less and moved onto the sympathetic girl down the bar who thought he had just been sweet. Things always worked out his way in the end, that much he knew and he had no doubt in his mind that this time would be no different.
he chuckled at her comment about cruise ships though he himself didn't admire them much himself. He had always had an eye for beauty so he prefered the old wodden ships with sculptures of beautiful women on their bow pointing the way then these huge metal beasts... But he made no comment or move to assert his opinion, instead tilted his head as she asked if he'd like to walk with her. She walked away and he almost had to bite his lip to keep from drooling as he watched her body move under those form fitting clothes. Yes he romatisized the olden days when women wore layers of clothes, it left more to the imagination but this was good too.
He raised eyebrow was both inviting and teasing, sa grin streatched across his lips and he jogged the few steps to catch up then fell into step with her. She asked about him working out and he laughed slightly. "My father was big into fitness when I was younger, been running since I was 15. But now I do it due to my profession, not simply because I enjoy it" he chatted pleasently then paused and frowned. He hopped in front of her suddenly to halt their progress then folded his arms over his chest.
"Wait wait wait, I don't believe we've been properly introduced" he said seriously though from the way he stood easily it was pretty obvious he was faking the annoyance he had put into his voice. Yes he was usually not to pleased when people didn't either introduce themselves first or give their name after he had given his. But she was hot so she got some lead way, plus it gave him a reason to stand in front of her again and get a nice view. It wasn't that her she was lacking anything in particular but he had always been a boob and a leg man and walking beside her didn't really give a good view of either...

Tamara watched as he stood in font of her with his arms crossed. She broke into a grin.
"Oh! I'm Tamara" she said.
She felt bad about not giving him her name. Her mind had been else where at this point, and well her mind was a bit preoccupied to say the least.
She continued walking alongside him now. She reached up and tucked a few strands of hair behind her ear as she glanced at him sideways. Tamara listened to him intently as he spoke about working out. She nodded.
"I worked for the police...or rather still do I guess if what we have now is even considered a police force" Tamara sighed. She looked at Deo. "Most of my family is gone except I don't know where my brother is. He could be alive somewhere in this world and I wouldn't know it."
She was surprised at how easily Deo was to talk to and how she was telling him about herself so readily. Still, it felt nice to do it. She was certainly attracted to him. He was really good looking. And while a bit superficial it was of her to like men with huge assets, she was sure men enjoyed looking at her chest or body. She really couldn't complain without seeming like a hypocrite and that was something she hated.

KAL, Darrea"But there's a side to you that I never knew, never knew. All the things you'd say they were never true, never true. And the games you play you would always win, always win." "A pleasure to meet you Tamara" he said with a bright smile, annoyed stance returning once again to his easy one. That worked well he thought, once again falling into step beside her as she continued walking. He was a bit suprised to learn that she was a cop or, as she said, an ex cop. the training never really went away though. Even in his time searching for his family the training had stayed deeply imbeded in him. He had thanked god for that many times. He was a bit curious as to what cops like her were doing now, maybe she could help his squad. Though with their current situation he wasn't sure what to do with them or himself.
She carried on talking about her family and he winced, the comment about her brother resurfacing old wounds. Images of his sister falling to the ground, a hole between her eyes but no blood. There had been no time to mourn before his mother had been on him. "I know how you feel kind of. When I first got home to this I found that my father had killed himself. My parents had seperated and my twin sister had gone with my mother a long time ago. I spent a long time searching for them...." he left it at that, not wanting to go further with the story, though his smile had faded slightly due to the story his tone still remained pleasent.
"So a cop hey? I've been in the military since before I can remember. I was fighting in Iraq when the apocolypse hit actually. Now I'm here with a few other guys to see what we can do here." he explained causually, easily pushing the conversation forward and keeping the light chit chat going. He had always been good with words, with talking and such. Before deciding to go into the military he had studied political science for a while, sure he was going to be the next presidant. He was quite glad he hadn't followed that path now, he was much more helpful to the world as a grunt now rather then politician. "What exactly are you doing now then? Is there any orginization left with the polize force?" he asked, honestly curious.

Tamara listened to him intently and looked at him sadly.
"Sorry about your dad" Tamara said softly and put a hand on his arm.
She continued to walk along side him and smiled.
"Well, not much of a 'force' per se but there are few of us cops still making sure that that curfew is in effect and that people need to feel secure even though the world is as it is" Tamara said to him.
She offered Deo a smile.
"I've seen some ReAnimated that would make your hair stand up, but then again, I'm sure you've seen your share to give you nightmares for the rest of your life huh" she asked sympethetically
Tamara turned back to him then checked her watch. It was about 2 pm.
"Care to grab a cup of coffee with me? Starbucks isn't too far from here" she asked him..
Starbucks was well protected and she hoped he would acompany her to there. Even though now you can help yourself to whatever was in teh stores without paying, she liked going to starbucks now to feel somewhat normal. She stopped walking and waited

KAL, Darrea"But there's a side to you that I never knew, never knew. All the things you'd say they were never true, never true. And the games you play you would always win, always win." He wasn't a fan of the sad look she gave him, if anything he looked away so he didn't have to deal with it. To this day he had refused to shed a tear over his family, he wasn't planning on starting today. But he looked down at her hand where she touched him then up at her eyes as if startled that she would touch him. But the shocked looked was fleeting and disappeared in a matter of seconds, easily replaced by an easy smile. He was glad for the change of topic and he listened intently to her as she described what exactly she did here. Well at least there was still some structure there...
She commened about some reanimated and he shrugged as she said that he probably had nightmares about them. "Honestly they don't bother me very much, they're predictable..." he said, frowing slightly and pausing to figure out the proper way to say what he was thinking. "When I was in Iraq you'd be trading gunfire with the enemy and they'd grab a hostage and take off. With the Mudo they just keep walking, theres no need to take cover other then a barrier to slow them down and there's no running away" he said, tilting his head curiously, not sure if he got his point across. He had shared his thoughts with a private once but he had never been across seas, only fought the reanimated so he had no clue.
Coffee now? He tilted his head and a quizzical look came across his face. "You have a starbucks here?" he asked slowly, almost skeptically. He was a grunt of the squad, there were some privates who were in charge of feeding everyone else but the rest generally didn't do much other then clear out the reanimated and sleep. Well in Darrea's case he worked out as well but in town he had assumed everything except the bar had shut down. People needed their liquor now more then ever after all... "Sure I suppose, I haven;t had coffee in almost 5 years..." he said, half to himself. The coffee he had had before that had been strong and bitter. But it had kept you awake.

Tamara nodded thoughtfully. That was true they were predictable anyway.
She looked at him like he was crazy but she laughed.
"Of course we have a Starbucks! The coffee there is like liquid gold" She said chuckling.
She gathered up all her hair and tucked it back into the ponytail.
"But first I need to stop by my house for a quick shower and clean up. You're welcome to clean up there too if you want" Tamara offered him as she began heading back toward the parking lot where her Ford Edge was parked. She gave him a flirty expression.
"Just don't get any ideas there comrade" she winked at him as she slipped her hands into her pocket and pulled out her car keys. She waited to see if he would follow her back to her car. "I can always drop you back off here later for your car"
She stopped and glanced at Deo. She hated being sweaty and disgusting and not to mention wanting to change out of her jogging outfit that clung so nicely to her body. Don't get her wrong, she liked showing off her body, but when you were jogging all day, you simply prefer jeans and a shirt.

KAL, Darrea"But there's a side to you that I never knew, never knew. All the things you'd say they were never true, never true. And the games you play you would always win, always win." He smiled at her laughter, apparently he had issues, but as long as the coffee was good he was in. He pulled his shirt out from his back pocket and pulled it on, luckily it had survived the sweat so he didn't feel all the disgusting. "Well I'm in then" he said with an easy shrug, watching her pull her hair back. Then there was an invitation to her house and he gave her an odd look, not quite sure what she meant by 'clean up'. But she clarified when she told him not to get any ideas and he gave her a shocked look as if he would never think such things. "Don't get any ideas says the girl inviting some random stranger she met five minutes ago back to her house" he replied, raising an eyebrow.
She said she could drop him off back here later for his car and he laughed at that. "Yeah right, I don't trust technology, with no one around to properly maintain it I'd just rather not risk it. I walk or run everywhere" he said with a shrug. He knew how to fix vehicles, his father had taught him at a young age. When it came to maintaining things in a house, car or farm he could do it but he'd rather not have that problem. He didn't want to deal with the headache of the car breaking down at the worst possible moment. But he still followed Tamara to her car and climbed in the passenger seat.

Tamara grinned at him and then drove to her house. It was a two story Victorian painted in light blue and white. She pulled into the arc driveway and shut off the engine. She climbed out and led Deo in.
"Well make yourself comfy" she said cheerfully gesturing to the large living room that was filled with plush furniture , including a wide screen TV.
"I'll be back in about five minutes. When I'm done you're free to shower as well" she said and hurried upstairs.
She grabbed a fresh pair of clothes, a pair of low rise jeans and a black sweater that showed off her midriff. She quickly braided her hair and tucked a few loose ends behind her ear. She felt much more refreshed and better after a clean shower.
She came down stairs and jerked her thumb over her shoulder toward the staircase.
"Ok. You're turn. I know you must feel icky after not showering for a bit. I know I do" she said shivering. "I do have some old clothes that were my fathers. They should fit you. They're in the second bathroom on the right" she explained and flopped down on a chair.

KAL, Darrea"But there's a side to you that I never knew, never knew. All the things you'd say they were never true, never true. And the games you play you would always win, always win." They drove in silence though Darrea didn't mind, he gripped the edges of his seat nervously while still managing to keep his composure. He stared easily out the window, keeping track of where they were going so he could find his way back to base camp later on. Her house wasn't too far but if something happened it was still further away from everyone else then he'd like. Either way he got out of the car almost as soon as it stopped and shook off her nervous. Planes, cars... Maybe it was a bit of claustrophobia but he hated them all. He had never ridden anything other then a motorcycle before everything had happened and now he just relied on his own two feet to get him where he needed to go.
He followed her in and flopped down on the nearest couch when she told him to make himself comfortable. She said she'd be back and then he could shower and he smiled easily in return, nodding to show he understood but still not trusting his voice. That car ride had deeply unsettled him. But those five minutes were really all he needed. That and the image of a hot woman in form fitting clothes that showed just the right amount of skin. The smile crept onto his lips as he stood and walked towards her. "You know its really hard not to get any ideas when you dress like that" he said as he walked past her.
He paused as she directed him to the bathroom and told him where he could find some clothes. He wasn't much for taking other peoples things but he'd check it out. His shirt was fine, his shorts were a thin material that dried fast so he would probably just take them in the shower, wring them out and they'd be dry when he finished. But he nodded and called a thanks over his shoulder before jogging up the stairs and finding the bathroom easily. It had been quite a while since he had last had a hot shower. He turned on the tap, stripped and walked in. God that felt good.
